Through the Arenal Lodge and Observatory, you can take the highly popular Lava Tour, a unique opportunity to see volcanic activity up close and personal! Walk through open natural areas with patches of secondary forest and see local wildlife such as monkeys, toucans, parrots, and oropendolas. Your group will follow a trail up to the lava flow, created in the infamous 1968 eruption. You will be walking the site of an old cluster of houses, the whole tour providing interesting information and unbeatable panoramic all along the way. The entire tour is two and a half hours and two kilometers long and provides once in a lifetime opportunities to walk along the lava!
